When the Carolina Hurricanes squeezed out a 3-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in the seventh game of the Stanley Cup finals Monday, Glen Wesley lost a dubious distinction: being among a list of fine players who had played the most games without winning the Cup.

It took Wesley 1,480 regular-season and playoff games to earn the title. The only players with more career games and no Cup titles are Dale Hunter at 1,593, Phil Housley at 1,580, Mike Gartner at 1,554, Norm Ullman at 1,516, Adam Oates at 1,500, Scott Mellanby at 1,498 and Doug Mohns at 1,484.
